R. Spencer Smith, III Meg Hatfield Law, LLC · Full-time

Experienced Trial Attorney

After spending half a decade defending healthcare providers, Spencer’s career path has taken several interesting turns. From running a non-profit, to managing Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux’s campaign and leading voter protection efforts in Gwinnett County during the 2020 election cycle, to becoming a professional poker player (Spencer now has four World Series of Poker Championship Rings and coaches students) he possesses a truly unique perspective: His experience in and out of the courtroom give him a unique ability to read people and assess risk during litigation.

He learned how to practice law defending doctors and hospitals in medical malpractice litigation including complex birth trauma cases, and also litigated myriad wrongful death, premise liability, and mass tort actions. Spencer is a member of Leadership DeKalb and remains active supporting local nonprofits.
